Británico B score four but can’t close out game

Luca Mallon18 Feb 2022 - 16:31

Británico B were unable to capitalize on four goals, letting opponents back into the match in thrilling 6 goal second half

Both teams took off right out of the gates and CD Tajamar could have gone ahead early, but it was Británico B who drew first blood.

The opener came via Luca Mallon, who found the back of the net for the first time this season, leaping to meet a cross from Julio Prieto and guiding the ball into the top left corner by way of a spectacular left footed volley.

CD Tajamar rebounded well and could have gone level were it not for several excellent saves from Británico B keeper Calvin Stephens.

The toughness of Británico B showed when, several minutes before the half, they found their second after Mallon received the ball on the left and picked out Eskil Smits with a sharp cutback, Smits finished first time to double the lead for the hosts at the break.

When both teams retook the pitch Británico B knew that their opponent would come out guns blazing, and they did. But Británico B held firm at the back and once again it was them who found the back of the net.

Mallon received the ball on the turn and drove towards the CD Tajamar back-line, feinted a shot, and squared for James McKittrick who’s finish made the lead 3-0 with only a half hour to play.

But the excitement was far from over, and CD Tajamar would fight their way back into the match.

They pulled a first back thanks to a penalty kick and their second and third followed soon thereafter, and all the good work of Británico B until then had been undone.

Sensing the game on the brink of slipping away completely, Británico B turned the pressure back up and it paid off when Smits got himself onto a loose ball, had a touch and hit a ferocious strike from 20 yards out to reclaim the lead 4-3.

But just as quickly as they Británico B retook the lead, CD Tajamar leveled the score at 4-4.

In the dying moments Británico B had a golden opportunity to steal back all three points, but the right footed effort from Will Gittins hooked just wide of the post.
