Our
Story

Fútbol Club Británico was founded in 1972 by workers from the British Embassy in Madrid. Bolstered by workers from other businesses in Madrid, the club started by organising kick-abouts before starting to compete in local leagues.

The team entered the Madrid Federated football system in 2009, winning promotion to Segunda Regional in 2015 under the stewardship of Paul O’Riordan and Neil Moran before another promotion to Primera Regional in 2021 -  the sixth tier of Spanish football - Moran once again involved, this time in tandem with Arren Sutcliffe.

Our squad are amateur players who have played at a good standard in their home country. Professionally, they work in a variety of sectors including Teaching, Technology, Banking, Finance, Translation plus we always have a strong contingent of students who come to Madrid on Erasmus, for a Masters or various other study abroad programmes .

The majority of our squad come from English-speaking countries but pur policy is always to welcome talented footballers regardless of nationality  who want to play football at a good standard - and speak english while doing so. Currently our squad is composed of players from 10+ countries.

We have played at various pitches across the city and currently we are playing on the pitches at the Madrid Federation headquarters in Ernesto Cotorrruelo in the Plaza Eliptica part of the city. Our home pitch is a brand-new 4G surface.

Matches take place on Sundays and our midweek training sessions are led by UEFA qualified coaches. All of the communication on both match days and training sessions are done in English.

In the Tercerca Regional league league we compete against amateur clubs from surrounding neighborhoods in Madrid, as well as organising friendly matches versus touring sides primarily from the UK.

As well as being successful on the pitch, our aim is to offer a fun environment where both expats and locals can enjoy playing football at a competitive level. We also promote the social side of our sport by encouraging players to mix and make new friends by organising regular social events including quizzes, tours or simply socialising after the game.
